Automation Today - 2-2010
Welcome to this edition of Automation Today
On the journey towards plant-wide optimisation – encompassing major targets such as energy saving, operational excellence, cost reduction and regulatory compliance – standards often form the lifeblood of many engineering and manufacturing activities. In this issue we hope you will begin to appreciate how a Rockwell Automation-lead approach is helping our customers make significant headway in this long and often difficult journey.
As an equipment and service provider the goal of plant-wide optimisation defines a great deal of what we offer to our customers. By using standards-based equipment and protocols, such as EtherNet/IP and standards-based best practice, such as S88, to address these major targets, we are able to offer our customers solutions that give them a significant advantage over their competitors... who may be tied to closed, proprietary systems.
What is more, by adopting procedures and protocols that have been defined by the industries they serve, our customers can have greater confidence that they have a more assured, long-term platform for subsequent expansions, innovations and investments. There is nothing worse than seeing your asset base rendered obsolete by short-term industry fads.
By taking this long-term view, we are able to offer our customers the flexibility they need to stay competitive in some extremely volatile and demanding markets. With plant-wide optimization being the target for all of us, the machine builders we supply and the industries and customers they subsequently serve, things can only move forwards and upwards. But don’t just take our word for it – see what some of our customers have to say. I hope you enjoy this issue and find it informative...
